In continuation of its social awareness activities, Sipchem has organized a seminar entitled “Say No to Drugs” on May 23, 2010 at Fanateer Conference Center in coordination with the Drug Prevention Dept. The 3-hour seminar was attended by more than 200 students from 4 high schools in Jubail Industrial City. The seminar consisted of the presentations by : • Shaikh Khalid Al-Radhi, Imam of Othman bin Affan Masjid, Jubail Industrial City • Sergeant Mudawi Al-Bishi from Drug Prevention Dept., Jubail • Mr. Khalid Al-Barrak from Al-Amal Medical Center, Dammam • Dr. Ahmed Sallam from Al-Amal Medical Center, Dammam The seminar was aimed at increasing the awareness among the youth about various aspects of drug abuse : • Islamic point view regarding drug abuse and Saudi Government’s campaign against drugs • Relationship between smoking / alcohol and drugs • History and types of drugs and the symptoms on the users of each drug • Hallucination and other psychological disorders associated with drug abuse • False claims of benefits (enhancing the memory power, etc.) of drug abuse to the students • Treatment of drug abusers and the confidentiality of patients at Al-Amal Hospital, Dammam The program was very successful that could be gauged from the very encouraging response of the participants.
